Extremely easy to build, very strong once it’s all built. I’m using it to hold a 5 gallon jerry can, a 10lb aluminum propane tank and the top is my trash and laundry when I’m traveling. It does it all without complaint. One thing I added to it was these little 2” rubber pucks I found on the far outsides of the side panels just to give them a bit extra support from those washboard roads and rough trails. After adding the, I noticed a bit less back and forth when you close the tailgate so I thought it had helped but when I changed out the spare once I left them out and I swear there’s no difference now with them on or off. SO maybe it was my imagination. Either way, the rack is extremely strong and hasn’t given me a bit of grief with all the rough trails I’ve been down so far.
Unlike most tailgate racks that rely on straps around the spare, this mounts directly to the factory spare tire hardware, which makes it dramatically more secure. The construction is heavy-duty metal and feels overbuilt in the best way. Install was straightforward and immediately inspired confidence in the strength and precision of the system. I carry fuel, water, and recovery gear on it since roof access isn’t always an option, and it handles the load flawlessly. Rock-solid, well-engineered, and it looks fantastic on the vehicle. Highly recommended.
