Defender Vertex Revealed: The Biggest Design Update Since the New Defender Launched!

Land Rover has just announced the most significant design and accessory update the New Defender has received since it arrived in 2020, headlined by an all-new character joining the family: Defender Vertex. Announced on 8 July 2026, the update also brings a six-seat layout for the 110, a striking new colour, factory-fit expedition accessories, and a revised engine line-up. Here is everything you need to know.

Meet Defender Vertex

Defender Vertex sits alongside the X specification and, in Land Rover's words, takes tough luxury to new heights for both life in the city and outdoor exploration. The new look is built around:

  • Extended front and rear bumpers, a larger front profiled grille and revised fog lamps, all finished in Shadow Atlas Matte for a bolder, more muscular stance
  • A Gloss Black tail door spoiler paired with contrasting yellow front brake calipers and matching yellow exposed rear recovery eyes
  • Body-coloured lower cladding that visually lowers the profile and elongates the bodyside
  • 22-inch Diamond Turned wheels in Satin Dark Grey tint with Carpathian Grey contrast as standard, with optional 22-inch Gloss Black or 20-inch Satin Dark Grey wheels

Vertex is available in Fuji White, Santorini Black, Woolstone Green, Borasco Grey and Carpathian Grey, plus the Patagonia White Matte Wrap inspired by the peaks of the South American landscape. Inside, buyers choose between Windsor Leather with new Forged textile in Ebony or Caraway/Ebony, or Ultrafabrics seats in Light Cloud/Lunar.

Defender brand director Mark Cameron says Vertex and the new Extended Exterior Pack introduce a new character that expands the appeal of Defender for both existing and new clients, without compromising its toughness or off-road capability.

Like the Look but Not the Trim? There's a Pack for That

Inspired by Vertex, the new Extended Exterior Pack is available as an optional visual upgrade on X-Dynamic SE, X-Dynamic HSE (including Hard Top) and V8. It brings the extended Shadow Atlas Matte front and rear bumpers, the rear spoiler and a body-coloured spare wheel cover, with a choice of four wheel options.

A Six-Seat Defender 110

This might be the sleeper news of the announcement for families and touring crews. The Defender 110 is now available with a six-seat, 2+2+2 configuration that brings two Captain Chairs into row two, each with extra contouring, bolster cushions, individual armrests, a manual recline function and twin floor cupholders behind the centre console. The layout also improves access to row three, increases legroom for all rear passengers and creates convenient luggage space between the chairs. Captain Chairs were previously the territory of the bigger 130, so seeing this land in the 110 is a genuinely useful addition.

Trophy Edition Goes Dark

The Defender 110 Trophy Edition is now offered in Santorini Black, a bold look inspired by the dark sands of the Greek island. It replaces Keswick Green and gives buyers a subtle alternative to the heritage-inspired Deep Sandglow Yellow. The Trophy treatment continues with steel-style 20-inch Gloss Black wheels, black brake calipers, Sandglow Yellow side graphics and bonnet decals, and the expedition-ready Trophy Edition Accessory Pack with Expedition Roof Rack, Deployable Roof Ladder, Side-Mounted Gear Carrier and Raised Air Intake.

OCTA Updates: New Colour, New Sound, New Numbers

Defender OCTA gains Woolstone Green, joining Sargasso Blue, Borasco Grey, Patagonia White Matte Wrap, Charente Grey, Petra Copper and Narvik Black.

The bigger story is under the bonnet. For MY27, the 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 delivers 540PS, with torque maintained at 750Nm and 0-60mph in 4.2 seconds. For context, Land Rover has previously quoted OCTA at 635PS, so this is a notable revision that OCTA fans will be talking about. The consolation is real though: changes to the exhaust manifold give the updated engine a more characterful, deeper and truer V8 sound. The updated OCTA engine applies in the UK, Europe and select overseas markets only.

Namib Orange and a Self-Healing Film

A new colour joins the palette: Namib Orange, inspired by the striking orange sand dunes of the coastal Namib desert in Southern Africa, home to the launch of the New Defender in 2020. It is available on 90 and 110 body designs in S, X-Dynamic SE, X-Dynamic HSE and X, and can be paired with the Extended Exterior Pack on X-Dynamic.

The Defender range now offers up to 15 exterior colours, and a new Gloss Protective Film joins the existing Matte option. The self-healing film protects against scratches, stone chips and scuffs, and uses the sun's UV rays to repair micro-scratches over time.

Factory Accessories That Look Very Familiar

This is the part that caught our eye at NDM. Land Rover has introduced a raft of new factory-fit accessories:

  • An Expedition Roof Light delivering a combined 9,000 lumens and up to 350m of illumination when combined with the main headlights. It is engineered to withstand extreme dust and water exposure and operates from the main light stalk
  • A Tail Door Gear Carrier in Gloss Black with Defender script, providing up to 60 litres of lockable storage with a 12kg load capacity
  • A Tail Door Spoiler in Gloss Black, Fuji White, Santorini Black or a primed finish for body-colour customisation

Roof-mounted lighting and tail door storage have been aftermarket staples for years. The factory catching up is the clearest signal yet of where Defender owners are taking their vehicles, and it validates exactly the kind of builds this community has been doing since day one.

Smarter In-Car Voice and a Technology Pack

A new in-car connected speech service arrives, activated by "Hey Land Rover" and powered by generative AI for more natural, conversational voice interactions. A new Technology Pack also bundles popular features including a domestic plug socket, head-up display, Meridian Surround Sound System and Clear-Sight Interior Rearview Mirror, now available on S, X-Dynamic SE and X-Dynamic HSE.

Updated Powertrains

The engine line-up has been revised. A new petrol 3.0-litre six-cylinder P380 MHEV producing 550Nm of torque joins the range with a suite of technologies to improve real-world fuel economy. A new 3.0-litre six-cylinder P300 producing 470Nm replaces the 2.0-litre four-cylinder P300 in select markets, while the 5.0-litre V8 petrol will only be available in selected markets. Land Rover notes certain powertrains are scheduled for introduction following initial launch.

What This Means for Defender Owners

Vertex confirms what we have known all along: Defender owners want their vehicles to look tougher, stand taller and carry more. The factory adding extended bumpers, roof lighting and external gear storage to its own catalogue shows just how strong the appetite for personalisation has become. And for everyone running a 2020 to 2026 Defender, none of this changes what your vehicle can become.
